Forty-six undergraduates and graduate students participated in a group experiment consisting of three or four people. In this experiment, participants were instructed to describe their strengths based on past successful experiences and future prospects that made use of the strengths, and were required to disclose with others. As a result, the participants who had high self-esteem and tendency undervaluing others before the experiment had a significantly higher reducing effect on the tendency undervaluing others than the participants who had low self-esteem and high tendency undervaluing others before the experiment.
